Happy Diwali!

I hope that all the families of Rm. 13 had a joyous and safe Diwali. A special thank you also to all the families for the gifted food and sweets - such a delicious treat!

Buddy Reading with Rm. 2

The sun was shining on Monday of week 3 so Rm. 13 and Rm. 1 decided to soak up some rays during our buddy class reading time. It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm for reading and all the children joining in to share their books. Check out these superstar readers!

Class Trip

In the first week of term four Rm. 13 had our class trip to the Botanical Gardens. We had a wonderful time exploring the gardens and learning about the native plants and forest ecosystem. Thank you again to our parent helpers Rowan and Tammy, and to Mrs. Martin for coming along to help - we couldn't have done it without you! Check our our photos below...

The Potter's Children's Garden was one of our favourite sections!

We found eels, tadpoles and ducks in the lake.

Here we sharing our knowledge about the forest before heading in for our bush walk.

Looking at the forest life cycle and ecosystem - what might we see in the forest?

We walked with mirrors held to our noses in order to see the tree canopy above. Our buddies guided us safely down the path.

Here we are learning about the FBI (fungi,  bacteria and insects) that break down leaves.

Fallen trees allow sun to reach lower-lying plants.

We organised the leaves we found to show the evolution from healthy to dead during the FBI process.

Cross country champions!

The Year 3s recently had our cross country competition. Everyone had been training hard and we were lucky to have a beautiful sunny day. It was so wonderful to see everyone give their best effort to complete the course - we really saw the Olympic values of excellence, respect and friendship in action.

An extra special congratulations to Raksha and Jack from Rm. 13 who came 1st and 2nd respectively. We are very proud of you!

Wet day activities

We were very lucky to be given the opportunity to buy some wet day games for our classroom out of the PTA fundraising. We had a great time brainstorming all our ideas and casting our votes to narrow down the list. In the end Room 13 voted to buy a chess board games compendium, a new box of lego and some loom bands. Here we are enjoying a rainy lunchtime - thanks PCS PTA!

Room 13's Awesome Assembly

On Monday 23rd May, Room 13 hosted our school assembly. Everyone did such a fantastic job - from speaking, to singing, to dancing, to sitting up straight and being excellent assembly role models. Here are some photos we'd like to share:

Here we are ready to get started!

The song we chose to sing is called Firework by Katy Perry.

Check it out!

Caleb introduced the Kaiawhina Rangitahi's presentation about the Queen.

 Raul introduced our dance.

We performed 'Dem dancing bones' for our assembly item.

Roman closed our assembly.

Thanks for stopping by!

Our class trip!

Room 13 had such a fabulous time at Howick Historical Village. We learned how to play old-fashioned, outdoor games and then we listened to a story about the family who originally lived in the house. Some children had turns using the objects that the family bought from England on the ship. After the story we were allowed to explore the village and look inside all the houses and old shops. In the afternoon we made butter with Mrs. White and visited the old school for a handwriting lesson.

We would especially like to thank our parent helpers - it wouldn't have been possible without you!
