Today we had Mrs Sharma come into our class and demonstrate from scratch how to make a kandeel. A kandeel is an Indian lantern used for decorations during Diwali. Here are step by step instructions on how to make a kandeel. Thank you Mrs Sharma for sharing your skills with us. You are a star. Happy Diwali.
First Mrs Sharma tied four satay sticks to make a square. |
The square looks like this. She made six squares. |
Then she tied two squares together at an angle. |
She tied four squares together to make a 3 dimensional shape. |
The top and bottom of the shape is another two squares. |
Mrs Sharma then cut out green cellophane paper slightly larger than the size of the square and glued the paper on four of the squares. |
She then used yellow paper to cover four of the triangles and red paper for the other four triangles. |
Mrs Sharma cut strips to create the tassels. |
She stuck the tassels to the kandeel using tape. |
She also folded and cut some patterns to paste on the kandeel. This pattern had more than one line of symmetry. |
This is the end product of the beautiful kandeel. |
