Room 13's Awesome Assembly

On Monday 23rd May, Room 13 hosted our school assembly. Everyone did such a fantastic job - from speaking, to singing, to dancing, to sitting up straight and being excellent assembly role models. Here are some photos we'd like to share:

Here we are ready to get started!

The song we chose to sing is called Firework by Katy Perry.

Check it out!

Caleb introduced the Kaiawhina Rangitahi's presentation about the Queen.

 Raul introduced our dance.

We performed 'Dem dancing bones' for our assembly item.

Roman closed our assembly.

Thanks for stopping by!

Word in a Word

Jaisheel and Azhar were champions of our word in a word activity recently! Look how many words they managed to make out of magnificent.

Our class trip!

Room 13 had such a fabulous time at Howick Historical Village. We learned how to play old-fashioned, outdoor games and then we listened to a story about the family who originally lived in the house. Some children had turns using the objects that the family bought from England on the ship. After the story we were allowed to explore the village and look inside all the houses and old shops. In the afternoon we made butter with Mrs. White and visited the old school for a handwriting lesson.

We would especially like to thank our parent helpers - it wouldn't have been possible without you!

Check out the slideshow of our photos!

Howick Historical Village

Tomorrow we're visiting Howick Historical Village to learn more about New Zealand history.

Please remember to have a sunhat, packed lunch and comfortable, closed-in walking shoes.
Children will need to be at school in their normal uniform by 8.50am.

Thanks!

Welcome to Rm. 13 2016!

We've had a great start to the year so far in Rm. 13 and have been busy getting back into our learning after a lovely summer holiday!

Here are few snapshots of what we've been up to recently...

On Friday 26th we held a mufti day to raise money for a school rebuild in Fiji. We were really sad to hear of all the damage that's been done and our thoughts go out to all the families with relatives and friends living in Fiji.

Sometimes we're a real bunch of monkeys!

On Fridays we spend our math hour doing problem solving activities. So far this year we've been exploring the strategies we can use to to solving a math problem. Last Friday we looked at a word problem related to logical number patterns and decided to solve it by using both materials and drawing a representation.

In reading we are currently working on using our prior knowledge to make a prediction about a text. Prior this we were learning how to identify and summarise the beginning, middle and end of a story. An activity we really enjoyed was using the POW comic strip design on the iPads to segment the story and add a caption. Check these out!

Tomorrow we are going to visit Howick Historical Village as part of our topic; historical New Zealand. Don't forget to check back for some photos and updates!

End of year celebrations!

The countdown to Christmas and the holidays is definitely on and Rm. 13 has been busy, busy, busy wrapping up the end of the year!

On Friday 11th we had a our Christmas concert and every single child was an absolute superstar! Miss Rooke is so proud of all the hard work and effort that went into the performance.

Here are some photos of us in our Christmas-themed outfits for the show.

Then on Monday 14th we were lucky enough to make some bread with Whaea Paea - how cool to cook in the staffroom! It tasted delicious with butter and jam and we got to eat outside in the sunshine. Ki ora Whaea Paea!

2015 has been an incredible year for Rm. 13 and everyone has shared in some wonderful learning. We hope all of our families have a safe, happy and relaxing holiday break.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
